On May 22, 2025, our Doctoral Candidate Daria Kovalchuk (DC6) took part in the 2025 PhD Conference organized by the Doctoral Students Association (DSA) at Karolinska Institutet (KI). This annual event, planned by KI PhD students, focused on the theme “Beyond the Defence: Unlocking the Potential of a PhD”, highlighting diverse career pathways available to doctoral researchers after graduation.

Over two days, participants attended a variety of talks and seminars featuring speakers from academia, scientific publishing, industry, entrepreneurship, and biotechnology. These sessions offered insights into the wide-ranging opportunities available to PhD graduates and allowed for open dialogue with experienced professionals.

PhD students also had the chance to present their research in a dynamic 3-minute pitch format and through poster sessions. Daria contributed to both formats, sharing her latest results and receiving valuable feedback from peers. The conference fostered an encouraging environment for networking and exchange, free from the pressures often present at more senior-level events.

In addition to the academic program, the event promoted community building through social activities in the scenic surroundings of Djurönäset, including opportunities to relax in nature and enjoy the sauna.

This conference served as an enriching experience for early-career researchers, offering practical knowledge on topics such as medical innovation, bioentrepreneurship, and launching one’s own company. It also helped boost participants’ confidence in scientific communication and expanded their professional networks within the KI PhD community.
