Last week, on 14 to 16 September, our doctoral candidate (DC6), Daria Kovalchuk traveled from Stockholm to Belgrade to attend the EMBO|FEBS Lecture Course: The Evolving Role of Mitochondria in Metabolism and learn more about the latest advances in the field of mitochondrial biology.
Daria also had the opportunity to present her latest research project during a poster session, followed by a flash talk.
The course highlighted how mitochondria are much more than just energy producers — they function as signaling hubs, regulators of immune responses, and key players in cellular communication. Beyond lectures, participants engaged in meet-the-PI sessions and round-table discussions covering hot topics in the field as well as career development, making the event especially valuable for early-career researchers.
It was a wonderful opportunity to receive feedback on research, exchange ideas, and connect with fellow scientists in the inspiring environment created by the organizing committee.

Belgrade welcomed all participants with warm, sunny days – and beyond the science, a highlight was the chance to enjoy the hospitality, food, and culture of Serbia.
